The Life by Marche Baton in Kashiwa, Chiba

The Life by Marche Baton The Bottom Line

Kashiwa doesn’t offer up much in terms of craft beer, considering the population in the area, but The Life by Marche Baton brings something much needed to the area. While it is not the cheapest bar we’ve come across, the fact of the matter is that there is very little competition in the area besides Cluster and Kashiwa Beer, both we couldn’t get into on the day we went to Kashiwa. The Life by Marche Baton is completely non-smoking and has no table charge, but prices do not include tax, so don’t forget to factor that in. Some of the menus have English on them but if you ask, they do have fully translated menus. There is also free WiFi for those indeed so you can plan your train back to Tokyo with plenty of time to spare.

The Life by Marche Baton The Full Review

A reader commented on one of our Tweets about how our Craft Beer Map of Kanto was lacking places in Chiba. It’s not for want of trying but it’s hard to find listings for places if places for drinking don’t exist. Well The Life by Marche Baton popped up thanks to a friend who lives in the area (Thanks Conrad!) and off we went. The Life by Marche Baton opened in July 2018 and is owned by Marche Baton, a small chain of restaurants in the Kashiwa area.

The Life by Marche Baton is located about 3 minutes from Kashiwa Station, in Chiba. The bar itself is on the second floor, but for the lovers of outdoor drinking, there is space on the roof for some drinking in the sun. Or rain. The Life by Marche Baton has space – lots of it! The owner mentioned that they could probably fit around 100 people when both floors are open, and those 100 people would all be seated. Both floors are non-smoking, so if you want to smoke, you have to go outside the front door and downstairs. There is also no table charge at The Life by Marche Baton, so you get to save a few pennies there then.

There are ten taps of beer on atThe Life by Marche Baton, with 9 of those being for craft beer, and one being for Kirin Heartland, so you can bring you non-craft beer loving friends along with you to drink. The tap list at The Life by Marche Baton is split between domestic and imports, with beers coming in two sizes: glass (235ml) for ¥500 to ¥700, and pint (470ml) for ¥900 to ¥1,100, with the imports being at the higher end of the pricing. I didn’t notice any happy hour nor any flights on offer. The bad thing to point out is that none of the prices include tax, so make sure you factor that into the calculations at the end. However, The Life by Marche Baton are trying to support local breweries, with both Kashiwa Beer and also Saitama’s Zakkoku Micro Brewery being supported too.

The Life by Marche Baton Food 1The food at The Life by Marche Baton was slightly disappointing considering the taplist on offer. The food was mostly snacks with the only real big menu item being a roast chicken. Yep, you too can order a whole roast chicken for dinner if you want. However, they did have chips and the chips were good. Really good! So good that I didn’t want to share them with anyone but I had to. The menus weren’t in English but I later found out that if you ask for one, they do have fully translated English menus.
