Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu

Kizakura Kyoto BakushuKizakura Kyoto Bakushu, like many other first generation craft beer breweries, has its roots in the sake production business, and was established soon after the Japanese government changed the alcohol production laws back in 1994. Kizakura Beer started making beer back in 1995, with the using the same water that they have been using to make sake. They have also collaborated with Waseda and Kyoto Universities to produce the Nile range of beers and they also produce a beer with local Tanba black soybeans.

Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Main Lineup

The following are part of Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu’s all year round offerings:

  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Kölsch – a 5% kölsch style beer that was one of their first offerings. Also offered as Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Pale Ale in cans.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Alt – a 5% altbier that is brewed using a traditional German recipe. Also offered as Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Brown Ale in cans.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Kura no Kahori – a 4% pale lager that uses Seishi sake yeast in the primary fermentation. Also offered as Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Golden Ale in cans.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Yamadanishiki – a 5% lager that uses Yamadanishiki rice that is traditional used in sake production. Also offered as
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Blonde Ale in cans.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Lucky Cat – a 5% White Ale that is made with yuzu (citron) and sansho, a kind of Japanese pepper.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Lucky Dog – a 5% pale ale that is unfiltered and made with rice and Cascade hops.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu White Nile – a 5% witbier that uses a strain of wheat, known as emmer wheat, once found in Egypt over 8000 years ago.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Blue Nile – a 5% witbier that uses durum wheat that was first cultivated in Egypt in 1000 B.C along with yuzu and coriander.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Ruby Nile – a 5% witbier that uses Pyramidal that was first cultivated and used in Egypt until the 1920s.

The following are part of Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu’s seasonal lineup:

  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Tamba no Kuromame – a 5% spiced beer that uses locally sourced Tamba black soy beans.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Fresh Cherry – a 5% fruit beer that uses locally sourced cherries. Available in spring.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Beer Chocola – a 7% stout that uses cocoa powder for the chocolate aroma and flavour. Available in winter.
  • Kizakura Kyoto Bakushu Pumpkin – a 5% fruit beer that uses Kizakura pumpkins in the mash. Available in summer.
