Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA by Sankt Gallen

Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA is a 6.5% IPA from Sankt Gallen, based in Kanagawa, Japan. It’s part of the New England IPA craze that seems to have made some in-roads in Japan and was first on sale at the end of April 2017. Compared to the Sankt Gallen Yokohama XPA, Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA uses three times as many hops at a much later addition to impart the fruity flavours into the beer, with the former having a ratio of 8 : 5 of hops to the early addition compared against the late addition, while Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA has a ratio of 2 : 39. At the time of writing, it’s unknown whether Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA will make it into bottles or if it’s a one-off brew.

Lacking in punch really.

Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA Aroma and Taste

Burning hot sun at Akarenga-soko, or Red Brick Warehouse, left me wanting a beer at the recent Yokohama Frühlings festival, but I was loathed to queue up for 15 mins to get a small glass of beer for over the top prices. Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA came up trumps at ¥800 a pint and without much head on top either. It was a hazy dark golden orange colour and what head there was disappeared quickly. It had a tropical fruit aroma, with grapefruits, pineapples, and some peaches coming through with a distinct lack of malts though. It didn’t really look like the advertising did on the promo board though.

Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA didn’t have the bitter bite associated with IPAs, though the tropical fruits came through. I wouldn’t have described Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA as juicy though as there was on thirst-quenching aspect to it, nor was there any sign of thick body to it either. Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA was easy-drinking and did go some way in helping stave off the relenting heat but besides the tropical flavours, Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA didn’t really offer much up.

Sankt Gallen Golden Haze IPA The Bottom Line

If this is supposed to be a New England IPA, then I’m happy to give the style a miss.

I found it so awful that i couldnt finish it. Very phenloic, cheesy, onion like and just awful. Gotta say it was a huge dissapointment after all that marketing effort.
